TEQOYA air purifiers aim for the best balance between effectiveness, safety, ease of use and durability:
See our dedicated question: Do TEQOYA air purifiers become less effective over time?
TEQOYA air purifiers and ionizers avoid the two main drawbacks that users find with HEPA filter air purifiers: frequent and costly filter replacement, and a poor fit with everyday life (bulk, energy use, noise).
By their very principle, HEPA filter air purifiers also increase the carbon footprint of their use (disposable filters, powerful fan). TEQOYA designs air purifiers that are effective, comfortable to run continuously and low in carbon footprint:
The safety of TEQOYA air purifiers has been verified by several laboratory test protocols (tests and certifications).
Read also: How effective are air purifiers with a HEPA filter?
Because TEQOYA's patented technology releases a large quantity of negative ions without emitting ozone, which is not the case for many conventional ionizers. Ozone is a powerful oxidant that irritates the airways.
See our dedicated question: Why don't TEQOYA ionizers produce ozone?
TEQOYA air purifiers are designed and made in France, in our factory in Villandraut, in the Gironde region. Every device is manufactured, calibrated and tested there before shipping. Our suppliers are French and Spanish, which keeps transport to a minimum.
This local manufacturing is part of our eco-responsible approach, with devices that have no disposable filter, use little energy and are built to last.

TEQOYA air purifiers are designed to limit their environmental impact over their entire life cycle:
Read also: What is a TEQOYA eco-friendly air purifier?
Very little, always under 10 W:
Relative to their clean air delivery rate (CADR), they generally use 2 to 3 times less energy than commercially available HEPA filter air purifiers. They can therefore run continuously for an electricity cost of a few euros a year.

No. With no disposable filter to clog up, TEQOYA air purifiers stay consistently effective throughout their service life, provided they receive simple maintenance. This is one of their main advantages over conventional filter air purifiers. They come with a 5- to 10-year warranty, depending on the model.
To keep them effective, dust the ion optics once or twice a year, depending on the pollution level in your environment. For the TEQOYA E500, also clean the filter every 6 months to 1 year.
See our dedicated question: What maintenance does my TEQOYA air purifier need?
TEQOYA air purifiers act on airborne particles of all sizes: from ultrafine (PM0.1) and fine particles (PM1, PM2.5) up to the largest ones (PM10).
They act on all types of particles:
However, they do not remove gaseous pollutants, such as VOCs (including formaldehyde), radon, nitrogen dioxide or CO2. Against these gases, ventilation remains the first solution.
According to the WHO, exposure to PM2.5 (particles less than 2.5 µm in diameter) is associated with more than four million deaths worldwide each year, and chronic exposure increases the risk of chronic diseases. PM stands for “Particulate Matter”; 1 µm equals 0.001 mm.
See our dedicated questions: Are TEQOYA air purifiers effective against VOCs? and Why purify indoor air continuously?
They give particles an electric charge with negative ions, and the charged particles are then removed from the air. TEQOYA uses two patented technologies, depending on the model:
In both cases, the ions are produced without emitting ozone or other by-products. These technologies remove up to 99% of airborne fine particles (tests and certifications), and also act on microorganisms and allergens.
Built to last and energy-efficient, TEQOYA air purifiers are suitable for homes, offices and dusty workspaces.
See our dedicated question: What is the difference between TEQOYA ionizers and the TEQOYA E500 air purifier?
Yes. Pollen, dust mite allergens, pet dander and mold spores are particles: TEQOYA air purifiers give them an electric charge and remove them from the air, like other particles.
With an ionizer (T200, T450, Nomad), these allergens are drawn to the floor and other grounded surfaces. With the TEQOYA E500, they are captured in its washable filter through e-filtration.
By reducing the concentration of allergens in the air, an air purifier helps improve indoor air quality. It does not replace treatment: if you suffer from allergies or asthma, ask your doctor for advice.
See our dedicated question: Are TEQOYA air purifiers suitable for people with allergies or asthma?
Yes, they can be used by people with allergies or asthma, including in a bedroom and continuously: they reduce the concentration of pollen, dust mite allergens, mold spores and fine particles in the air, without emitting ozone or any irritating substance.
An air purifier is an air treatment device, not a medical device: it does not cure allergies or asthma and does not replace treatment. It complements the measures recommended by health professionals: airing out, regular cleaning and reducing sources of allergens.
For a bedroom, the TEQOYA T200 is silent. For a living area, the TEQOYA E500 captures allergens in its filter, with no deposits on surfaces.
See our dedicated question: Which TEQOYA air purifier model should I choose?
Yes. Electrically speaking, microorganisms (bacteria, viruses, mold spores) are particles: they become charged by negative ions just like other particles, and are removed from the air.
Laboratory test results (tests and certifications):
See our dedicated question: Can TEQOYA air purifiers limit the airborne transmission of viruses such as Covid-19?
TEQOYA air purifiers reduce the concentration of airborne particles, including aerosols that may carry viruses, without producing toxic substances (no ozone, no nitrogen oxides). They are not medical devices: they do not protect against any disease and do not replace ventilation or protective measures.
They do not prevent transmission through direct contact or through large droplets (spray from the mouth) expelled at short range. Ventilation, wearing a mask when needed and protective measures remain the first steps to take. An air purifier provides additional protection, especially in enclosed spaces where the air is poorly renewed.
Read also: Covid-19: are several small air purifiers effective?
Yes, against odors carried by particles, such as smoke from tobacco, candles or incense, or cooking fumes: TEQOYA air purifiers noticeably reduce them, usually within the days after they are switched on.
They do not act on odors that are gases from the start, such as those from food waste or chemicals. For these, the best solution is to air out the room and remove the source.
Effectiveness also depends on the size of the room and the intensity of the source. Some odors remain noticeable at very low levels: it is normal for a gaseous odor to persist despite the air purifier.
See our dedicated question: Can a TEQOYA air purifier replace airing out the room?
No. VOCs (volatile organic compounds), such as formaldehyde, are gases: our technologies, which act on particles, do not remove them.
SVOCs (semi-volatile organic compounds) are a different matter. They are present in the air both as a gas and as an aerosol, in the form of microdroplets. TEQOYA air purifiers act on this liquid fraction. A laboratory test showed that the air purifier speeds up the decay of the aerosol formed when terpenes evaporate, without transforming the gaseous VOCs (tests and certifications).
To remove VOCs, they must either be trapped in an adsorbent material (*) or destroyed by a chemical reaction:
Ventilation remains the safest way to limit VOCs. However, it lets in particles from outdoor air, hence the value of an air purifier that is effective against particles.
ADEME (the French Agency for Ecological Transition) presents the regulatory framework for VOCs.
(*) Adsorption is the property of solid surfaces to bind certain molecules reversibly. Main adsorbents: activated carbon (wood, coconut), zeolites, silica gel, synthetic adsorbents (resins, macromolecules).
See our dedicated question: Which pollutants do TEQOYA air purifiers act on?
Our measurements show a reduction of around 50% in particle pollution within one hour, in rooms of 15 to 30 m². In more favorable conditions, during a test by the CERTAM laboratory in a 20 m² bedroom with the door closed, particle pollution fell by 80% in 15 minutes (tests and certifications).
The time needed depends on the size of the room, the pollution level, the air exchange rate and the model chosen. Since pollution constantly enters and builds up again, we recommend leaving your air purifier running continuously (24/7).
See our dedicated question: Which TEQOYA air purifier model should I choose?
A TEQOYA air purifier improves the quality of the air you breathe by reducing the concentration of fine particles, allergens and microorganisms. It is not a medical device, and it does not cure any disease.
Many studies associate exposure to fine particles with health effects, particularly respiratory and cardiovascular ones, and health authorities recommend limiting this exposure, including at home or at the office, where we spend most of our time.
For healthy indoor air, also remember to air out your home every day, clean regularly, prevent mold and limit household cleaning products and air fresheners. If you have a health concern, consult a health professional.
See our dedicated question: Why purify indoor air continuously?
An air ionizer removes airborne particles from the air: fine particles, pollen, mold spores, bacteria, viruses, smoke. It releases a large quantity of negative ions into the room. These ions attach to the particles and give them an electric charge. The charged particles are then drawn to grounded surfaces, mainly the floor, and leave the air you breathe.
This mechanism exists in nature: the air in forests, in the mountains or at the seaside is rich in negative ions.
An ionizer does not filter gases (VOCs, CO2, radon). A poorly designed ionizer can emit ozone: always check that it has independent test reports on this point. TEQOYA ionizers are designed and tested not to emit any.

TEQOYA air ionizers release a large quantity of negative ions into the room. These ions give an electric charge to airborne pollutant particles, which are then drawn to grounded surfaces and leave the air you breathe.
On the technical side, each ion optic of a TEQOYA ionizer has two features:
This principle reproduces the natural mechanism that makes the air in forests, mountains and at the seaside rich in negative ions.
Read also: Our ozone-free ionization technology
See our dedicated question: Why don't TEQOYA ionizers produce ozone?
Because their patented technology avoids the physical conditions that create ozone. Ozone forms when the electric field and the electron density exceed certain thresholds around the emitting tip. TEQOYA ion optics stay below these values. Several patents describe part of this technology.
The absence of ozone emissions has been verified by independent laboratories: a measurement using the standard test applied to air purifiers for CE marking, and a measurement by accumulation over more than 12 hours in a sealed 1 m³ chamber. In both cases, the measured level is very low, at the detection limit of the measuring instruments (tests and certifications).
See our dedicated question: Are TEQOYA air purifiers safe?
E-filtration is the technology of the TEQOYA E500 air purifier. It combines two stages: ozone-free air ionization, which charges the particles, followed by electrofiltration, which traps them in a washable, reusable filter inside the device.
This filter is made of polarized, insulated plates, to rule out any risk of electric shock. It offers very little resistance to airflow (low pressure drop) and can hold a large quantity of pollutants.
The result: effective filtration with no consumables and very low energy use, without particles settling on the surfaces of the room.
See our dedicated question: What is the difference between TEQOYA ionizers and the TEQOYA E500 air purifier?
Both use TEQOYA's ozone-free ionization, but they do not remove particles in the same place:
See our dedicated question: Which TEQOYA air purifier model should I choose?
Negative ion diffusers are mainly sold for the sense of well-being associated with ions. TEQOYA ionizers are designed to purify the air: their high, ozone-free ion output removes particles from the air (bacteria, pollen, spores...).
TEQOYA ionizers act on all particle sizes, down to ultrafine particles of 7 nm (0.007 µm). They are silent and very energy-efficient.
A diffuser can also reduce particles, but its output is often low: its effect depends heavily on the size of the room.
See our dedicated question: How many negative ions do TEQOYA ionizers produce?
Measured 1 m from the device, the negative ion concentration is 200,000 ions/cm³ for a TEQOYA T200 and 450,000 ions/cm³ for a TEQOYA T450. There are two ways to measure an ionizer's output:
In a room of about 15 m², a T200 maintains a concentration of around 5,000 to 10,000 ions/cm³ throughout the room, depending on the room layout and the position of the device. This concentration is reached within a few seconds, except in very polluted spaces, where the particles capture the ions.
These values depend on the measurement conditions (temperature, humidity, electrostatic environment). When you compare ionizers, check that the units are specified: number of ions per cm³ and at what distance, or number of ions per second. A unit such as “ions/cm³/second” is meaningless.
See our dedicated question: How far do negative ions travel in a room without a fan?
Significant quantities of ions are measured up to 3 to 4 m from a TEQOYA ionizer. Without a fan, the ions move under the effect of electric forces:
In a real room, the air is never still: temperature differences, ventilation and the presence of occupants constantly stir it, which further helps the ions spread and the particles mix. The ions spread better if the ionizer is placed near an airflow.
See our dedicated question: Where should I place my TEQOYA air purifier for maximum effectiveness?
Not long: from a fraction of a second to a few minutes. It depends on the chemical nature of the ion, its reactivity and the humidity of the air.
This is why maintaining a constant level of ions in a room requires continuous production, which is what TEQOYA ionizers do when running permanently.
See our dedicated question: How does ozone-free air ionization work?
Yes. The ions emitted by TEQOYA ionizers are chemically similar to those in natural air: the vast majority are negative oxygen ions (O2⁻).
They are produced by the corona effect, in a cold plasma confined to a zone less than one millimeter around the tip of each needle. Oxygen is the molecule in the air that captures electrons most easily: most of the ions formed are therefore O2⁻ ions, all the more so as the electrons produced by our ionizers are low-energy.
TEQOYA ionizers do not release positive ions: these remain confined to the plasma zone and are immediately neutralized by the metal tip of the needle.

The TEQOYA Nomad uses the vehicle's electrical ground, to which it is connected through the USB or 12 V socket. It does not need a grounded outlet.
The particles charged by the negative ions are drawn to the surfaces connected to the vehicle's ground. The electric charges are then dissipated by the friction of the air on the bodywork and by the tires' contact with the road: tires are insulators, but they let through the very weak currents produced by the ionizer, which are below one microampere.
The TEQOYA Nomad therefore purifies the air in the passenger compartment effectively. In a laboratory test on a vehicle fitted with an F9-class cabin filter, it removed 90% of ultrafine particles in 250 seconds (tests and certifications).
See our dedicated question: How do I use the TEQOYA Nomad in my car?
Plug the TEQOYA Nomad into a USB socket or a 12 V socket (cigarette lighter) in your vehicle, using the cable supplied: it switches on as soon as the socket is powered. The indicator light shows that it is working.
To benefit from it quickly, place it as close to you as possible; most of our users put it near the socket on the dashboard. If you drive with the window open for the whole trip, you can unplug it for that trip.
The Nomad can also purify the air in a camper van or, plugged into a USB port, the air close to you in a small room.

See our dedicated question: Can I use a TEQOYA air purifier in a camper van?
No, not a grounded outlet in the sense of the electrical installation. An ionizer needs a “return to ground” to dissipate the charges it emits. TEQOYA devices get it through the neutral wire of the power grid, which is itself connected to ground at the electricity supplier's transformer.
This design ensures they work even in homes whose outlets are not grounded, which is common. Connecting the device to a household ground does not improve how it works.
For the same reason, a TEQOYA ionizer cannot run on a simple isolated battery. In a car, the TEQOYA Nomad uses the vehicle's ground.
See our dedicated question: How does an ionizer work in a vehicle, without a ground connection?
Yes. Their safety has been verified by independent laboratories (tests and certifications):
Their electrical power is very low, and so is their electromagnetic radiation. The maximum current they can produce is a thousand times lower than the threshold considered dangerous to health (1 mA). They comply with CE requirements for electrical safety and electromagnetic compatibility.
Negative ions are naturally present in the air, sometimes in high concentrations (forests, waterfalls, seaside). Several scientific reviews have found no harmful effects of negative ions on health, for example Jiang et al., International Journal of Molecular Sciences, 2018.
See our dedicated question: Are air ionizers safe to sleep with? Can a high ion concentration be harmful?
The reports from independent laboratories, which we publish. TEQOYA designs its air purifiers to clean the air without emitting any pollutants (ozone, nitrogen oxides, VOCs, fine particles), then has their performance and safety verified by independent laboratories in France and abroad (CERTAM, Intertek, Guangzhou Industrial Microbiology Testing Center).
These reports can be downloaded from our tests and certifications page. Before buying any air purifier, we recommend checking that such reports exist.
See our dedicated question: Are TEQOYA air purifiers safe?
No. The particles charged by a TEQOYA ionizer stay stuck to surfaces by electrostatic attraction. They do not behave like dust: they only come off through mechanical action (rubbing, wet cleaning, powerful vacuuming), and are not stirred back into the air by a simple draft or when you walk.
The harm caused by fine particles comes mainly from inhaling them: we breathe about 12,000 liters of air a day, and the finest particles penetrate deep into the lungs, then into the bloodstream. Once deposited on the floor and mixed with all the other household dust, these same particles represent a tiny fraction of what comes into contact with our skin, and the available studies indicate that they penetrate the skin far less than the lungs.
A particle on the floor is a particle you do not breathe. Simply clean the surfaces as part of your usual housework, especially near the device.
See our dedicated question: Are TEQOYA air purifiers safe for children and pets?
Yes. TEQOYA air purifiers emit no ozone or other toxic substances, and the maximum current they can produce is a thousand times lower than the threshold considered dangerous (1 mA). They can be used in a child's bedroom or a room where pets live.
A few precautions for use:
The ionizers, with no fan, are silent and do not blow air.
See our dedicated question: Are the particles an ionizer deposits on surfaces dangerous?
Yes, you can sleep near a TEQOYA ionizer. Air is naturally ionized, and strongly so in some natural environments: forests, the seaside, waterfalls, mountains. In a room equipped with a TEQOYA ionizer, the average ion concentration (around 5,000 to 10,000 ions/cm³ for a T200 in 15 m²) is of the same order as in these environments. The available studies have not shown any danger in living in air rich in negative ions.
TEQOYA ionizers emit no ozone and are silent, which makes them suitable for a bedroom. If you are electrosensitive, we recommend placing the device at least 1 m from where you spend long periods (bed, armchair, desk).
See our dedicated question: What proves that TEQOYA air purifiers are harmless?
Yes. TEQOYA air purifiers have very low electrical power and therefore emit very little electromagnetic radiation. The low-frequency magnetic field is practically impossible to measure, because the current emitted by the needles is below one microampere.
As a precaution, we recommend that electrosensitive people place the device at least 1 m from the places they regularly occupy (bed, armchair, desk). If in doubt, ask a health professional for advice.
See our dedicated question: Are air ionizers safe to sleep with? Can a high ion concentration be harmful?
The choice depends on the room, how it is used and how much you mind particles settling on surfaces:
If you are looking for the quietest solution and the one closest to a natural phenomenon, choose an ionizer. If you want to avoid any deposits on surfaces, or if you are sensitive to allergens or cooking odors, go for the TEQOYA E500.

In as open a space as possible, so that the ions or the air can circulate freely throughout the room. Avoid corners and spots surrounded by objects or furniture.
For an ionizer (T200, T450):
For the TEQOYA E500: do not block the air inlet, at the bottom, or the outlet grille. If it stands on a surface, use the wooden feet supplied. It can also be wall-mounted.
If you know the source of pollution (kitchen, fireplace...), place your air purifier close to it.
See our dedicated question: Why do marks appear on the walls near my ionizer, and how can I prevent them?
They are particles removed from the air. The ionizer charges the particles; most are drawn to the floor, but a fraction settles on nearby walls and furniture. Depending on the pollution level and the type of surface, a darker halo may gradually appear.
To limit them:
If you want no deposits at all, the TEQOYA E500 captures particles in its filter.
See our dedicated question: Where should I place my TEQOYA air purifier for maximum effectiveness?
Very little: all you need to do is clean the ion optics once or twice a year (and the filter in the case of the TEQOYA E500).
Ion optics (all models): over time, a thin layer of white dust builds up on the tips of the needles, at the bottom of each cone, and reduces ion output. To remove it, use the silicone eraser from the TEQOYA cleaning kit. Otherwise, make a point with a folded dry towel, push it into each cone and twist it. The needles are not fragile: the way they are mounted prevents them from being bent or pulled out.
TEQOYA E500 filter: clean it every 6 months to 1 year depending on the pollution level, with the brush supplied. It is reusable: there is never a filter to buy again.
Surfaces near an ionizer: dust them as part of your usual housework.

See our dedicated question: Why do marks appear on the walls near my ionizer, and how can I prevent them?
We recommend leaving it running all the time (24/7). TEQOYA air purifiers are designed for this: they use very little energy, have no disposable filter that wears out, and come with a 5- to 10-year warranty for continuous operation.
Pollution constantly enters and builds up again in a home: continuous operation keeps the air clean without you having to remember to switch the device back on. Cleaning once or twice a year is enough to keep it effective.
See our dedicated questions: Why purify indoor air continuously? and How much energy do TEQOYA air purifiers use?
There is no need: TEQOYA air purifiers use very little energy and are designed to run all the time, so you can safely leave them on while you are away. That way, you will not come back to air loaded with pollutants.
This is particularly useful if you use your air purifier for health reasons, or if pets stay indoors.
If you prefer to switch it off during a long absence, as with any electrical appliance, just remember to switch it back on when you return.
See our dedicated question: How much energy do TEQOYA air purifiers use?
Yes. TEQOYA air purifiers are light and compact, so you can easily move them as needed: the living room during the day and the bedroom at night, for example. Simply follow the placement advice in each new location. Remember to move the device into your bedroom about 1 hour before you go to bed, so you can enjoy healthier air right away.
For permanently purified air in several rooms, however, it is better to equip each room where you spend time, starting with the bedroom.
See our dedicated question: Where should I place my TEQOYA air purifier for maximum effectiveness?
TEQOYA ionizers (T200, T450, Nomad) are silent: with no fan or motor, they cannot be heard at a normal distance. Very close up, with your ear against an ion optic, you may hear a slight crackling, a sign that they are working.
The TEQOYA E500 has a low-noise fan: from 30 to 50 dB depending on speed, or from 20 to 35 dB with the silent cap.
See our dedicated question: How can I tell if my TEQOYA ionizer is working properly?
It is very simple. Remove the plastic packaging, then:

See our dedicated question: Where should I place my TEQOYA air purifier for maximum effectiveness?
Yes, with no contraindication. Using a TEQOYA air purifier together with a humidifier reduces airborne pollutants while maintaining suitable humidity.
For a healthy environment, keep relative humidity between 40% and 60%: above that, mold and dust mites thrive.
See our dedicated question: My ionizer makes an unusual whistling sound: is this normal?
Yes, but the air purifier partly reduces the diffuser's effect. A diffuser emits microdroplets of essential oils, which the air purifier removes from the air like other particles. The fragrant compounds that evaporate into a gas are not removed.
While the diffuser is running, it emits a lot of aerosol in a short time and the reduction remains small. Once the diffuser is switched off, the microdroplets disappear from the air much faster with the air purifier than without it.
Use good-quality essential oils, in moderate amounts.
See our dedicated question: Which pollutants do TEQOYA air purifiers act on?
Yes. The light, portable TEQOYA Nomad is designed for vehicles: it is powered through a USB or 12 V socket, which camper vans have. It reduces particles and particle-borne odors (smoke, cooking) inside the vehicle.
If your camper van has 230 V outlets, you can also use a TEQOYA T200, with the power adapter supplied.
See our dedicated question: How do I use the TEQOYA Nomad in my car?
Because it is indoors that we breathe most of the pollution we are exposed to. We spend around 90% of our time in enclosed spaces, where the air can be up to 5 times more polluted than outdoors. Indoor pollution is constantly renewed: cooking, dust, dust mites, mold, and outdoor pollution coming in through openings.
For children too, exposure happens mainly indoors: a study of 96 nine-year-old schoolchildren in Paris showed that home and school accounted for more than 85% of their exposure to ultrafine particles, with the highest peaks measured at home, especially during cooking (Paunescu et al., Indoor Air, 2017).
The bedroom is the first room to equip: we spend 6 to 8 hours a day there.
A TEQOYA air purifier running continuously (24/7) removes up to 99% of particles from the air, including pollen, dust mite allergens, mold spores and tobacco smoke.
See our dedicated question: How many hours a day should I run my TEQOYA air purifier? Can it run all the time?
No, keep airing out your home. Open your windows for at least 10 minutes, early in the morning and in the evening, to let out CO2, humidity and gases such as VOCs. When you air out, you also let in outdoor pollution, especially PM2.5: your TEQOYA air purifier then removes it from the air, along with the other indoor particles (mold spores, dust mite allergens...).
An air purifier is more effective in a room that is not permanently open to other sources of pollution. However, keep enough fresh air coming in to avoid stuffiness and humidity; the air purifier will make up for the outdoor pollution that comes in.
See our dedicated question: Why isn't airing out enough to purify indoor air?
No. A TEQOYA air purifier removes particles from the air, but not CO2, humidity or VOCs. It is still essential to air out your rooms every day, for at least 10 minutes morning and evening.
See our dedicated question: Why isn't airing out enough to purify indoor air?
Because airing out renews the air without filtering it. It lets out CO2, humidity and VOCs, but many indoor pollutants, such as fine particles, mold spores and dust mite allergens, are emitted continuously and remain airborne for hours. A few hours are often enough for the pollutants driven out by opening the window to come back.
Moreover, airing out lets in outdoor pollution, all the more so as the air exchange rate is high. As our ventilation systems rarely filter the air, we often inhale more atmospheric pollutants indoors than outdoors, because of the time we spend there.
An air purifier therefore complements airing out. TEQOYA ionizers remove particles from the air in the room; the TEQOYA E500 captures them in its reusable filter.
See our dedicated question: Why choose a TEQOYA air purifier over a HEPA filter air purifier?
Not necessarily, but country air is not always healthy. Intensive farming, livestock, nearby roads or airports, and pollutants carried over long distances can degrade air quality, even in rural areas. Pollen is often abundant there, and indoor air can also contain mold spores or pet dander.
Start by finding out about the air quality near you, for example with our free air quality report. If the data are good and you feel no discomfort related to the air, you probably do not need an air purifier. If you are sensitive to pollen or allergens, a TEQOYA air purifier can improve your indoor air.
See our dedicated question: Which TEQOYA air purifier model should I choose?
Perhaps. Even without visible pollution or odors, the air can contain fine particles and allergens. Research is gradually showing that even low concentrations of pollutants, which are hard to measure, have an effect on health.
The best way to find out is to measure: an air quality monitor tells you the particle level in your home. If you are sensitive to allergens or odors, an air purifier such as the TEQOYA E500 reduces their concentration in the air thanks to its reusable filter.
See our dedicated question: How can I be sure the room is properly purified?
By measuring. An air quality monitor measures the particle level before and after you switch on the TEQOYA air purifier. TEQOYA offers the S1 Sensor, on free loan for one month when you buy an air purifier, or for purchase to monitor your indoor air continuously.
The sensor also measures relative humidity and CO2, which tells you whether your home is sufficiently ventilated.
To keep it working at its best over time, follow the use and maintenance instructions in the user manual.
See our dedicated question: What maintenance does my TEQOYA air purifier need?
It is normal not to notice anything: at a normal distance, a TEQOYA ionizer makes no noise, gives off no odor and does not blow air. To check it, do one of these three tests, which are completely safe:
If you do not hear any crackling, your body may be insulated from the ground by the soles of your shoes. Touch a wall with one hand or take off your shoes, then try again.
To go further, an air quality monitor measures the ionizer's effect on particles. TEQOYA offers them for sale or on loan.
See our dedicated question: Some needles on my TEQOYA ionizer don't crackle: is it faulty?
Four simple checks:
The E500 works discreetly, with no disposable filter and no odor: just because you cannot see anything does not mean nothing is happening.
See our dedicated question: What maintenance does my TEQOYA air purifier need?
No, this is normal. The ion optics are not independent: when one emits strongly, its neighbors emit less, because the local electric charges slow them down. The most active optics change over time. What matters is the device's total ion output, which we check during production.
The sound can also vary with the local humidity of the air or how close your body is.
If the crackling decreases across the whole device, the needles probably need cleaning: the ultrafine dust that builds up on their tips gradually reduces ion output.

See our dedicated question: What maintenance does my TEQOYA air purifier need?
A slight crackling is normal. An unusual whistling generally has one of two causes:
See our dedicated question: What maintenance does my TEQOYA air purifier need?
If it was dropped: TEQOYA air purifiers are sturdy, so yours is probably still working. Check it with the tests in the question “How can I tell if my TEQOYA ionizer is working properly?”.
If it got wet: unplug it immediately and leave it to dry until the next day. Then plug it back in and check that it works.
If in doubt, contact our customer service.
See our dedicated question: How can I tell if my TEQOYA ionizer is working properly?
No. A very slight shock, similar to the one you feel when touching a car body but weaker, can occur in two cases:
Metal objects placed on an insulating surface near the ionizer can also build up charges. Move the ionizer away from these objects.
None of these phenomena is dangerous or a sign of a malfunction.
